Once upon a time, the rich wore cotton and the poor wore linen. The very rich wore silk, of course.
Once upon a time the rich drank their tea straight, and the poor put a little tea in their milk and cream. The very rich added sugar, of course.
Some things don’t change, of course. The rich have always had room to sprawl while the poor live cheek to jowl. The rich have always been able to travel both frequently and broadly while the poor only do so when fleeing death and destruction.
Oh, and there are always the poor who beggar themselves pretending to be rich, and rich who hide their wealth through a few of the mannerisms of the not so rich.
Just an idle observation.
