I just discovered I know a whole bunch of useful little tips that I thought everyone knew. Guess I’ll share them. Note that they’re things I’ve learned over the years and have NO idea where credit is due — but none of them are original discoveries on my part.
Today’s tidbit is stopping hicoughs aka hiccups aka Oh-god-my-diaphram-make-it-HIC-stop.
1 teaspoon of lemon juice, wait one minute, 1 teaspoon of sugar.
This one’s a 90 percenter. 90 percent of the time the hiccups are caused by an imbalance. You either need electrolytes or an energy boost. Either the lemon juice or the sugar is going to stop them.
90 percent of the time, of course.
No, I do NOT know why. I just know that pretty much every time, a spoonful of lemon juice or a spoonful of sugar ends it. And I’ll take “it works and I don’t know why” over “It should work but HIC – ouch” any day.
