A thought about Reagan

I voted for Reagan, in his re-election bid. I have mixed feelings about him. But he did one thing that — for me — makes him wrong.

He was the spearhead for destroying the government.

A little joke that worked. “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.'” hahahaha…

That is actually what our government is for, what it is supposed to do. All the programs you see people want to kill? They’re meant to help.

Oddly, we seem to grow as a nation when we devote resources to helping ourselves, especially those who need. It’s as though people who don’t have to worry about their elderly parents can devote more energy to work and growth; as though people who don’t have to worry about starving on the street maybe get a leg up and start contributing.

What Reagan did was make the government the enemy, when in reality the government is us and ours. In the end, I think I hate him more for that than for any other good or ill he did.
